Lifestyle + Attractions

Tremont is a renowned historic neighborhood in the city of Cleveland. It is considered one of the oldest areas in the city, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Tremont once held a large German immigrant population and the now defunct Cleveland University. It is now home to many creative eateries, art galleries, shops and historic homes. The district is bounded by the Cuyahoga River to the north and east, and is located just south of the activity of downtown Cleveland. I-71 and I-490 intersect in the center of Tremont, making the neighborhood accessible from surrounding cities and communities.

Tremont is centered around Lincoln Park, a large green space lined with historic churches, restaurants and restored Victorian homes. The park hosts the neighborhood swimming pool, several park benches and a picturesque gazebo. The Tremont neighborhood is also home to the largest off-leash dog park in the Cleveland area.

Tremont residents and those in surrounding communities enjoy a myriad of annual events, including free monthly summer concerts, monthly art walks, the Taste of Tremont festival, and the Tremont Arts & Cultural Festival. Tremont boasts the largest concentration of historic churches of any neighborhood in America, including the Pilgrim Congregational UCC, St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, St. John Cantius Church, and St. Theodosius Russian Orthodox Cathedral. The stunning architecture of these landmarks reflect the ethnic culture of the area’s late 19th and 20th century immigrants. Tremont also hosts the house used in several scenes of the 1983 film, “A Christmas Story,” which now serves as a museum open to the public.

The Tremont neighborhood is served by the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, which operates over 60 elementary and K-8 schools, and 23 high schools.
